What is Atlanta Mahjong?

Since 2008, Atlanta Mahjong has been a community of diverse Mahjong fans, enthusiasts and players in the Atlanta, Georgia area. We get together regularly for fun and social Mahjong activities, like Mahjong Potluck Parties; but we’re looking to do more.

The Run-Down

• The purpose of Atlanta Mahjong is to encourage, disseminate and coordinate the playing of Mahjong in Atlanta, Georgia.
• We aim to empower and inspire people by spreading knowledge of Mahjong.
• With Atlanta Mahjong, knowing how to play the game is not a pre-requesite; we’ll teach you every step of the way; either online or in person.
• We look forward to providing Mahjong resources to our members, both free & premium.
• Atlanta Mahjong is the perfect way to make new friends and hang out regularly with old ones in a fun & social environment.
• A place to connect the curious with the old pros – Mahjong players and enthusiasts around Atlanta, Georgia.
• We enjoy introducing our Mahjong fans to a variety of game styles from around the world.
• Atlanta Mahjong is looking forward to the future – to continue to do what we’ve been doing all along… But in the future…To do much more!

Our Goals, Aims, Mission & Vision

We’ll continue to focus on expanding the popularity of Mahjong in Atlanta with our fun social group (all ages, genders, races, etc.) who love playing Mahjong together; seeing old friends and making new ones.

Atlanta Mahjong aims to meet its vision of establishing Mahjong as one of the world’s most popular recreational sports by organizing land-based games, parties, tournaments, and other events. Yes, we’ve got lots of big ideas. Just look.

• To bring unparalleled Mahjong information to the avid Atlanta Mahjong member.
• To offer a website offering various rule sets, news, articles, interviews, and much more.
• To provide fun social events & activities at every level.
• To build an online community; a place to connect and interact with fellow Mahjong enthusiasts.

• To meet the individual needs of Mahjong players and fans in Atlanta, Georgia.

Our History

Craig & Amp

Atlanta Mahjong is the brainchild of Craig S. Kiessling and his wife Amp. But the beginning was in Singapore.

After several years of living in Singapore, Craig finally happened upon the game. He quickly learned that the annoying sound he heard everywhere and all of the time were tiles being shuffled. Mahjong tiles. And then he learned how to play.

Craig came back to his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia and fell head over heels in love with Amp. And then, of course, he taught her Mahjong.

Unfortunately at that time, the pool of players to draw from to get a full game going was slim to none. So they made one. They taught their close friends at potluck get-togethers and the word spread. And spread.

Through the years, the numbers of people Craig & Amp taught to play Mahjong broke the hundreds. From humble beginnings of sitting and playing on posters on the carpetted floor, to having multiple tables going all at once – Atlanta Mahjong has grown.

And here we are.
